Macau October Gaming Revenue Falls 10% Despite Golden Week and NBA Events
October is here… and so are the numbers
Macau’s casino GGR for October rolled in at MOP 21.68 billion (about US$2.69 billion). That’s a 10% dip from October last year, but also a solid jump from September—up roughly 20% month over month—as the Golden Week party and NBA China Games at The Venetian Macao lured some action. Translation: October tried to bring the vibe, even if year-over-year it still trailed the previous year.
Month-to-month vs. year-to-year context
September closed at about MOP 18.1 billion (US$2.24 billion). October’s gain vs September was big (about a 20% bump), but you can’t talk a comeback without mentioning the YoY gap—the October figure was still below the same month last year.
Year-to-date through October
Cumulative GGR for January through October hit around MOP 208.79 billion (US$25.89 billion), up 1.6% from the first ten months of the previous year. That keeps the year-to-date lead, even though October’s annual comparison dimmed the glow a bit. In other words: the year started strong, but October cooled the annual sparkle a touch.
Where the softness showed up
The quarterly numbers reveal softer premium mass revenue as the main drag. In other words, the base of the curve isn’t breaking, but it’s not exactly blasting off either. October’s monthly improvement sits in the shadow of a tougher year-ago baseline, a reminder that the market still faces headwinds.
What analysts are saying
Analysts expect the headwinds to ease rather than vanish, thanks to easier year-ago comparisons as we roll into 2027. But not all operators will recover at the same pace. Truist Securities warned that some casinos, especially those leaning hard on the base mass segment, could see a more prolonged recovery compared with others.
Bottom line
October delivered a sequential uptick but didn’t erase the year-on-year disappointment. The year-to-date story remains a net positive, but the pace of recovery will vary by property and by segment as the market heads into 2027.
